Road Safety Audits
Our transport team provides independent evaluation during the design and construction of road schemes in relation to road planning design, road safety engineering (road safety audits and inspections) and traffic analysis, and assessment for both public and private sectors, identifying potential hazards to all road users. An RSA independently examines the proposed or existing piece of infrastructure in stages. These stages investigate the potential safety risk at initial design, detailed design and before opening a scheme to the public. An RSA is a statutory requirement on any schemes/developments on the national road network. RSAs can be carried out at various stages of the project lifecycle – Stage F (RSA) carried out at the feasibility stage of the project, right the way to completion of construction to ‘live’ highway and accident monitoring in the months following project completion.
The main aim of a Road Safety Audit is to ensure that road schemes operate as safe as practicable, minimise risk, conflict, collision numbers and severity and to ensure that all road users are considered and improve safety awareness in the design process.
Our transportation team works on various schemes including:
- New highway/motorway schemes
- Improvement schemes
- Residential schemes
- Shared surface schemes
- Traffic management
- Temporary traffic management works
- Cycling/greenway schemes
Project Work
Presentation College - Team Member in the Road Safety Audit Stage 1-2 and Stage 3 associated with the upgrade of a local authority road and associated 4-arm roundabout to replace an existing junction.
Movilla Road Housing - Team Member in the Road Safety Audit Stage 1-2 of the proposed housing scheme along Movilla Road, Newtownards. The scheme proposed to provide a new signalised junction to facilitate the development. In addition, it was proposed to relocate 2 no. existing private junctions accessing the road.
Lisburn Town Centre Public Realm - Participant in the Road Safety Audit Stage 2 of the public realm improvement scheme. The scheme proposed to enhance the pedestrian and traffic facilities throughout the historic Ballynahinch Town centre area.
Ballynahinch Town Centre Public Realm - Participant in the Road Safety Audit Stage 1-2 of the public realm environmental improvement scheme. The scheme proposed to enhance the pedestrian and traffic facilities throughout the city centre shopping area of Lisburn.
