Doha Metro - Red Line
The Doha underground metro runs below central Doha for a length of approximately 40km. The south phase Red Line package extends between the Masheireb Underground Station and the New Doha International Airport and incorporates two Deep Emergency Shaft Exits: Emergency Shafts HIA1 (46m diameter, 34m deep) and HIA2 (17.6m diameter, 44.5m deep).
ByrneLooby undertook the detailed structural and geotechnical design of the diaphragm walls, ring beams, counter walls, tympan walls and soft eye diaphragm wall panels to form the temporary shafts and to accommodate the tunnel boring machine. This included complex 3-dimensional geotechnical and structural modelling of the shafts. The role included preparing the geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring plans. ByrneLooby engineers also ensured that the diaphragm wall and ground movement predictions met specified design trigger levels.
