Crossrail Eastern Running Tunnels

Crossrail Eastern Running Tunnels

The Crossrail route in London links the new stations at Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, Liverpool Street and Whitechapel. Crossrail Eastern Running Tunnels, Contract C305 was awarded to Dragados Sisk JV (DSJV), who appointed ByrneLooby to assist with various temporary works in the tunnel, including the temporary supports for the cross-passages.

Crossrail Eastern Running Tunnels

Our Role

ByrneLooby designed the temporary steelwork to support the creation of the cross-passage openings in the cast iron tunnel linings. The design provided support for the ring compression in the tunnel linings to allow for the rings to be removed around the opening, with a carefully defined tensioning sequence to ensure that no excessive loads were applied to each connection point. The temporary steelwork was successfully reused at each cross-passage location. ByrneLooby also carried out independent checking for the timber headings for each cross-passage.
