We conducted hydrological studies and assessments, provided hydraulic modelling of flood flows in the watercourses, examined flood risk management options and advised on the selection of the preferred option. ByrneLooby prepared all planning documentation and successfully submitted the application to Cork County Council.
Our experts also carried out the geotechnical and structural design for the flood defences which included the design and specification of reinforced concrete chambers, flood defence embankments, an integrated attenuation pond, underground tank system with an automated flow-controlled outlet system. The scheme includes maintenance river cleaning, flood defence embankments, a storm water drainage infrastructure and a 1500mm diameter storm overflow pipe which drains to a 48,000 cubic meter attenuation system. This system includes one of the largest underground crated attenuation structures in Ireland which will restrict downstream flows and protects clients in the business park.
Collaboration across stakeholders, including Irish Rail and Irish Water was crucial to the successful delivery of the scheme.
