Alumina Offloading Deep Water Pier Extension

ALBA Deep Water Pier Extension

ALBA (Aluminium Bahrain) Line 6 Expansion Project, management decided to upgrade its port facility to handle the additional raw material demands of Line 6. To facilitate this, the existing Jetty 1 and Jetty 2 needed to be upgraded to have the potential to unload 60,000-ton Panamax alumina vessels. The jetties are equipped with a conveying system, a bucket unloader for the off-loading of green petroleum coke (GPC) and a facility for off-loading of liquid pitch, as well as a dual-purpose Vacuum Ship Unloader (VSU).

Achievements/Outcomes

ByrneLooby added value for the client by recommending an alternative solution as outlined in the preferred bid. This consisted of: installing 2 VSUs on the upgraded Jetty 2 which allowed speedier loading times for the 60,000 ton Panamax vessels, hence optimising the required works. Furthermore, ByrneLooby reviewed all technical submission for the proposed marine works (including upgrade of Jetty 1 and 2) according to the relevant codes and in line with the client’s expectations.
