Effective and Efficient Waste Management for Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Sites
European and national environmental legislation impose stringent legislative controls over a wide range of industrial and commercial activities. This legislation requires operators of ‘regulated facilities’ to obtain the appropriate permits to operate or discharge substances to air, water and land thus protecting the environment and promoting best practice in waste facilities. We work with various clients from medium-sized local and regional operators to international consortiums, working in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Continental Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Our teams have many years of experience securing environmental permits, supporting planning applications, and helping clients construct new waste facilities cost-effectively and on schedule. We assist our clients to comply with their permits by providing expert advice, collecting and reporting on emissions monitoring data and assisting them with their waste acceptance procedures. Where operational practices change or as a result of legislative changes, we prepare the requisite permit variation. Similarly, any change of ownership or new management of the waste facility will need a permit transfer for the new operator. When a facility closes at its end of life, we support our clients through the permit surrender process. Our permit compliance services including environmental monitoring and assessments help clients assess risks, comply with permit conditions and secure the permit surrender at the end of the life cycle.
We provide a comprehensive range of assessments throughout the entire facility lifecycle:
- Baseline environmental monitoring
- Geotechnical Studies and Stability Risk Assessments (SRA)
- Groundwater, surface water and ground gas risk assessments
- Odour and pest risk assessments
- Master planning, management plans and environmental management systems
- Fire prevention plans
- Closure plans and surrender applications
- Financial provision analysis
We advise on the permitting requirements for a broad range of facilities:
- Hazardous, non-hazardous and inert landfill sites
- Material Recycling Facilities (MRF)
- Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) facilities
- In-Vessel Composting (IVC) facilities
- Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATF) for end-of-life vehicles and bespoke facilities, e.g. ship and oil rig decommissioning
- In addition, our permitting experience extends to a broader range of industrial processes, including non-ferrous metal melting, wood treatment, wood combustion and mineral extraction and processing.
