Rail and Metro
Value-Focused Infrastructure Partners
Rail and metro transport has been an essential means of transporting people, products and materials for well over a hundred years. As well as providing a quick and efficient mode of transport, it forms a crucial role in urban revitalisation and regional development. Without good rail and metro links, the potential of a country, region or town will remain unlocked.
ByrneLooby has extensive experience in rail and metro schemes across Ireland, the UK and the Middle East. Working with a range of contractors and clients, we have undertaken design commissions for infrastructure operated by Translink, Network Rail, London Underground and Doha Metro, amongst others. The $36bn award-winning Doha Metro in Qatar’s capital city is designed as one of the most advanced rail transit systems in the world and our team provided engineering solutions for both red and green lines in the more complex elements of the scheme, including the two Deep Emergency Shaft Exits measuring 46m wide and 34m deep and 18m wide and 44.5m deep.
Our experience covers permanent and temporary works design for stations and the full range of earthwork, structural and drainage assets and the design of the temporary utility diversions and the permanent utility connections, wayleave searches and BIM 3D Modelling. Our detailed knowledge of the complex rail environment allows us to provide value-engineered, buildable solutions tailored to meet our client’s needs. In addition, by considering temporary works requirements alongside the permanent design, we are often able to provide significant savings in cost and programme. ByrneLooby’s partnership focus means we place emphasis on close collaboration with all stakeholders including authorities, assessors, and contractors.
