Over 1 billion people live in flood risk areas as flooding becomes the most common natural disaster affecting global economies, businesses and households.  We help clients identify the challenges, quantify financial implications and recommend sustainable solutions and management plans to mitigate climate change.   ByrneLooby engineers play a vital role in protecting communities from the impacts of flooding, which occur at coastlines, or inland by rivers, waterways or excesses of water in the local drainage network, and from surface water or groundwater.

We have designed and supervised the construction of innovative flood mitigation schemes to alleviate flood risks, enhance the public realm and support surrounding ecosystems, allowing wildlife to flourish.  For example, at our flood scheme in Bandon, Co. Cork, our public realm spaces are an integral part of the flood defence scheme, including a new architectural footbridge over the River Bandon and fishery enhancement measures included creating new habitats and delivering one of the longest 3km rock ramps (120m) for fish passage in Europe.  

Our engineers work hard to deliver value for clients, whether designing pump stations buried deep within the ground or building complex water drainage in challenging terrain, designing storm tunnels in busy urban centres or flood mapping for prevention and planning.
