We believe that a successful redevelopment requires a thorough understanding of the existing structure, demolition, construction sequencing and temporary works. Therefore, we ensure these issues are considered at the start of the design process to optimise solutions and minimise risk and disruption to any existing structures.   

We can also apply BIM (Building Information Modelling) in residential projects to ensure clients are completely satisfied before construction begins, investigate options through parametric modelling, coordinate construction and assess impacts across various scenarios, saving time and money.

City Residential

Our work on city residential projects maximises space in tight, urban environments and provides structural advice in relation to new build and alterations, horizontal and vertical extensions, basements excavations, ground assessments, temporary works and propping sequences. Our residential buildings consultancy is highly skilled in a range of specialist assessments, such as fire and storm damage repairs and structural risks and defects, including subsidence and bulging walls.

The site of Royal Mint Gardens, a luxury residential development of 350 apartments cantilevers over a Network Rail viaduct and the docklands light railway. Our work was critical in obtaining the necessary approvals on the project as we carefully coordinated with Network Rail and DLR. In addition, our team undertook all temporary works design, provided the CEM (Contracts Engineering Manager) role on phase 2 and conducted condition surveys and movement monitoring of the existing viaduct.

Our residential team work closely with our in-house conversation team to provide structural and conservational consultancy on listed buildings, delivering highly complex planning consents for premium historic properties in rural and urban settings. Combining our multi-disciplinary expertise, we have developed basements for landmark listed houses such as Grosvenor Square, Queen Anne’s Gate and Chester Terrace.

Our residential portfolio includes structural and design expertise on Hamilton Drive, a new luxury 7000m2 townhouse development, Audley Square Mayfair, a mixed residential development (21 luxury apartments and five townhouses), on which we provided complete civil and structural design as well as detailed ground movement assessment for the 5 storey basement. For the developer of Pear Tree Street, we assessed the structural capacity of the existing building to add a fifth-floor new penthouse apartment with minimal noise disruption to existing tenants.

We also have provided new and contemporary house designs, working alongside architect & developer Roger Zogolovitch (Solidspace) on the award-winning ‘Houseboat’ in Poole, a recipient of the RIBA’s Stephen Lawrence Prize, 2017.
