The Maltings, Thomas Alleyne School

The Maltings, Thomas Alleyne School

The Maltings, at Thomas Alleyne School located in Stevenage is a 'Scheduled', 'Ancient' Monument which could be found on the English Heritage ‘Buildings at Risk Register’ for many years. The building had become dangerous and was propped with structural scaffolding for several years.

The Maltings, Thomas Alleyne School

Our Role

Our team of experts at ByrneLooby in London were appointed specialist conservation engineering advisors. ByrneLooby London, assessed the building and prepared tender documents to have work carried out, sufficient to render the building stable, watertight and to a state where it could be removed from the ‘Buildings at Risk Register’. The building was stabilised by restoring missing parts of the original timber frame, repairing decayed elements and making good the brick infill panels in the frame. All works were completed in the Autumn of 2014 to the satisfaction of English Heritage.
