The Distillers Building in Smithfield is a new office development of an entire city block involving the demolition of the existing Irish Distillers building in Dublin. The new commercial building consisting of four and seven storeys above a double level basement will retain part of the existing stone walls. The ground level will incorporate retail, restaurant and bar floor space, and there will be three accessible roof terraces on the fifth-floor and a further three on the sixth floor. The development, which also includes a new Luas platform, will have a total floor area of 20,500 sqm.
ByrneLooby were engaged by P.J. Edwards to carry out the detailed design of the perimeter secant pile wall, temporary tieback and uplift anchors. The secant pile wall comprised of approximately 260 linear meters, with nearly 400 piles installed. The wall is restrained with pre-stressed glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) anchors under adjacent streets and the LUAS line to the south. Construction works are well underway on the project with the basement slab partially completed.
