The Barts and The London NHS Trust undertook a £13.5 million redevelopment of the Grade I Listed West Wing at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. It was conceived as a landmark project to showcase how an historic building can be sympathetically modernised to provide an appropriate environment for 21st century medicine. The finished building houses seven works of contemporary art and has won an award for 'Best Patient Environment' in the NHS.
This project involved the ByrneLooby team in London due to their particular expertise with listed buildings. Despite the complexity of fitting a highly technical and demanding modern facility into an historic building, the project was completed on time and within budget. It is used as an exemplar for other NHS Trusts and project managers. The restoration work has been recognised with the following awards: the 2005 'City Heritage Award' and the 2004 'NHS Best Patient Environment Award'.
