St. Bartholomew's Hospital - West Wing
The Barts and The London NHS Trust undertook a £13.5 million redevelopment of the Grade I Listed West Wing at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. It was conceived as a landmark project to showcase how an historic building can be sympathetically modernised to provide an appropriate environment for 21st century medicine. The finished building houses 7 works of contemporary art and has won an award for best patient environment in the NHS.
Byrne Looby, through Sinclair Johnston & Partners, were involved because of our particular expertise with listed buildings. Despite the complexity of fitting a highly technical and demanding modern facility into an historic building, the project was completed within time and budget. It is used as an exemplar for other NHS Trusts and project managers. The restoration work has been recognised with the following awards:
2005 City Heritage Award
2004 NHS Best Patient Environment Award
