Sitra Sub-Sea Cable Water Quality Monitoring

Sitra Sub-Sea Cable Water Quality Monitoring

Prysmian Group were appointed as the contractor to undertake the installation of a 400kV High Voltage power line between the Al-Hidd Grid 400 kV Substation and the Riffa Grid 400 kV Substation. A total of 4.25km of this cable installation involved laying a sub-sea cable.

The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) requires that levels of Total Suspended Solids (measured as TSS in mg/l) should be monitored to ensure that any deterioration in water quality can be readily detected so that immediate action can be taken.

Our Role

Our Role

As part of the offshore cable laying and burial works, ByrneLooby developed a Total Suspended Solids (TSS) Monitoring Protocol which outlined the water quality monitoring programme in compliance with the SCE’s guidelines on TSS monitoring (EIA-9). The protocol also recommended additional mitigation measures and provided best practice measures for the land-based cable works, where applicable.

ByrneLooby supervised the TSS monitoring and conducted fortnightly environmental health and safety inspections of the land-based activities.

The findings of the TSS monitoring and site inspections were presented in monthly reports to the client and the SCE.
