Shannon Foynes West Pier Subsidence

Shannon Foynes West Pier Subsidence

ByrneLooby were appointed by Shannon Foynes Port Company (SPFC) to provide design consultancy services to rectify the subsidence which was occurring at the West Pier in Foynes, County Limerick. In order to stabilise the structure our experts drilled micropiles through the existing pier structure. This procedure was further complicated due to the fact that the the structure was located in an environmentally sensitive Special Protection Area and Special Area of Conservation. ByrneLooby oversaw this process to ensure minimal intervention.

Our Role

Where projects are complex and technical ByrneLooby can oversee and manage on behalf of the client. ByrneLooby were appointed by SPFC to carry out a structural and geotechnical design to solve the subsidence problem; the existing masonry wall was bearing down on deteriorating timber piles. Our role involved a ground investigation specification and managing the procurement of Ground Investigation (GI) contractors, using ByrneLooby's design as the basis of the tender. We also provided the following services for SPFC: interviewing tenderers, preparing tender reports, reviewing the contractor's alternative design and acting as Project Supervisor of the design process.
