ByrneLooby designed a soil stabilisation solution that increases the strength of the waste deposits and binds contaminants in order to reduce the likelihood and consequences of future landslips. The stabilisation was extended through the overburden and keys into competent bedrock, using a specialised ‘Allu’ mixing tool. Works were undertaken in a bottom-up tiered sequence, with a temporary kingpost wall positioned mid-slope to facilitate safe access for construction plant. The use of carefully supervised field trials and verification testing proved the strength characteristics of the stabilised soils.
