This project involved the construction of a new 22,900sq.m building to house various hospital and primary care facilities, including a 90-bed accommodation ward. ByrneLooby managed the project site investigation prior to commencement of the main contract to establish ground conditions for foundation design and to classify materials so that an appropriate earthworks strategy could be developed. The project included appreciable earthworks fill areas. Construction works began in September 2014 following the appointment of the main contractor, McLaughlin & Harvey.
ByrneLooby provided value engineered alternative solutions which were adopted for the project. These included soil stabilisation and ground improvement for roads and carparks. We provided a design for a 6m-high reinforced concrete floodwall, situated adjacent to the floodplain of the River Strule, to maximise usable site space for the hospital and associated structures. CFA piles were designed to provide suitable deep foundations to support this large retaining structure.
