ByrneLooby was commissioned to provide Biodiversity Action Plan Monitoring for the Hassyan Clean Coal Independent Power Plant. The Hassyan power station is a 2,400MW, ultra-supercritical (USC) plant that is being developed in Saih Shuaib, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Upon completion, the project is set to be the first coal-based power plant in the region.
The monitoring works included dolphin, dugong, whale and turtle monitoring, intertidal fauna and sand morphology, coral and seagrass monitoring, plankton ecology monitoring as well as macrobenthic infauna monitoring. These comprehensive marine surveys at the Hassyan facility effectively identified environmental conditions and variances for different locations and these will inform the environmental assessment for the project.
