Courtstown Surface Water Drainage Study

Courtstown_Surface_Water_Drainage_Study_N5

New developments in the Little Island area of County Cork have impacted the effectiveness of surface water drainage in the Courtstown area, leading to increased flooding of farmland. The new developments include the N25 (Cork-Rosslare) dual carriageway and commercial parks in Little Island. In addition, old drainage infrastructure and sea defences were found to be inadequate. The National Roads Design Office engaged ByrneLooby to analyse the extent of the impacts. Our assessment of included surface water run-off requirements in terms of flow and storage capacity and we recommended options for improvements in drainage and sea defences.

Our Role

ByrneLooby reviewed the drainage drawings for the area, visited key sites and inspected existing drainage systems and tidal gates. Our team assessed associated path flows and stormwater runoff for various return periods, and available stormwater storage facilities. Our review developed various options for effective stormwater management and recommended a selected option with design layout drawings and cost estimates.
