Broughty Ferry FPS

ByrneLooby were appointed by McLaughlin and Harvey to provide design consultancy services for the development of Broughty Ferry Flood Protection Scheme (FPS). The works comprised of around 1km of coastal structures which would act as coastal defences and included a public promenade. Our services included: permanent and temporary works design, design of in-situ elements, precast elements, continuous flight auger piling, sheet piling, scour protection mattresses, cycle way and a flood defence wall.

Our Role

ByrneLooby were appointed by McLaughlin and Harvey (on behalf of Dundee City Council) to carry out the geotechnical, structural and scour protection design of the structures. Our solution required a multi-disciplinary approach: we provided costing drawings, value engineering drawings, issue for construction drawings, contractor support and we acted as consultant advisers to Marine Scotland. One of the important concerns in the project was the elimination of sheet piling due to the impact of noise. Our proposed works were designed to have minimal impact upon the hatton rising main and culvert.
