Belluton Narrows

Belluton Narrows

The B3130 in Belluton Narrows, Somerset passes through the village with the slopes in the road cutting having a history of instability. Localised slumping and slope debris has previously fallen onto the road presenting a hazard for road users. The scheme comprised 300 metres of slope stabilised with soil nails and facing mesh, drainage improvements and other road works. Particular geotechnical challenges on the site were variable strength mudstone strata, working room and edge clearance restrictions along with access to the site on this very busy and narrow country road.

Belluton Narrows

Our Role

Ayesa developed a bespoke, pragmatic design to address the construction challenges whilst improving the overall stability of the slope. Self-drill hollow bar soil nails with sacrificial rock drill bits were installed, with flexible mesh facing and erosion protection matting secured by anchor plates and grouted pins. Crest drains were installed at selected locations to divert runoff from the slope faces. The road was re-surfaced to conceal drainage adjustments and to provide a uniform finished appearance.
