Bandon Flood Relief Scheme

A €16 million Flood Relief Scheme is being advanced by the Office of Public Works (OPW) in partnership with Cork County Council for Bandon Town. This scheme will help alleviate significant flooding of Bandon Town. ByrneLooby were appointed as main consultants in association with JBA Consulting Engineers and Scientists. The project has progressed through feasibility, environmental assessment, planning and detailed design and is now at the Construction phase.

The Scheme

The scheme involves dredging of the river for 3.6km to increase flow capacity. It also involves the construction of new walls and embankments along the Bandon River, the replacement of the old steel footbridge with a new three-span steel footbridge along with the underpinning of Bandon Bridge, and the construction of a rock ramp for fish passage.
