The Bahrain International Sports City (BISC) is the first development of its kind in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The new build will be of the highest international standards with provision for all the main sporting disciplines. The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning (MOWMAUP) intend to augment the existing road system in the general Zallaq area, not only for the BISC Project but future projects including the Bahrain Amphitheatre and the Bahrain Conference Centre, as well as existing facilities such as the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), the Gravity Complex and several famous hotels.
Engineering Consultant, Advanced Centre for Engineering Consultancy (AdEC), appointed ByrneLooby to prepare the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for the upgrade to all the access roads to the Bahrain International Sports City (BISC). ByrneLooby will undertake the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) in line with the Supreme Council for Environment’s EIA-12 Guidelines Legislative Decree No. 21.
The Environmental Management Plan (EMP) scope includes the completion of an air quality baseline survey, including the deployment of diffusion tubes and dust monitoring. The provision of a brief impact assessment upon potential environmental and social receptors during the construction and operational phases of the Project. The establishment of a set of best-practise mitigation and monitoring procedures is intended to avoid and mitigate against predicted environmental and social impacts.
The EMP will be utilised as a guidance document by the appointed contractor(s) throughout the construction period, to uphold local and international requirements.
