Avonmouth Waste to Energy Facility

Avonmouth Waste to Energy Facility

Construction of the £252million Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) in Avonmouth began in Summer 2017. Once operational the Centre will use safe, environmentally sustainable and reliable technology to divert 320,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste away from landfill generating 34MW of energy for the National Grid - enough electricity to power 44,000 homes. ByrneLooby was appointed to design the foundation piles of the Energy from Waste (EfW) plant on the outskirts of Bristol.

Our Role

Whilst working closely with our client, ByrneLooby developed value-engineered solutions to enhance build-ability. This proved to be a crucial part in our client successfully winning the contract. Our design contribution involved the installation of 2,750 precast driven and CFA piles to carry axial loads ranging from 55 to 255 tonnes.
