Arklow Main Drainage
The development of a new wastewater treatment plant in Arklow, Co. Wicklow will eliminate untreated wastewater discharge to the Avoca River. The project will entail the construction of a new Wastewater Treatment Plant to treat 36,000 PE with a new sea or river outfall. When completed, the Arklow Wastewater Treatment Plant will bring benefits to the local area in terms of human health and improved water quality.
The project requires ByrneLooby, in conjunction with Arup, to design preferred routes for new interceptor sewers which will gather the existing outfall and transport it to a new treatment plant. The challenge is to find the optimal alignment for these interceptor sewers given the constraints arising from the existing sewers and the challenging ground conditions. Our expertise in tunnelling and geotechnics combined with our expertise in water and network design is enabling us devise the optimum solution. This project continues our historic involvement in delivering water infrastructure in Arklow, having previously been appointed as Engineer for the Arklow Water Supply Scheme.
