The privately-owned, Alumina Import Terminal in Bahrain is to increase its import and storage capacity, as part of an upgrade strategy to improve the overall production of aluminium. This project involves additional material offloading equipment, upgrade of all material handling systems on the plant, the construction of two storage silos ( 50KT Alumina and 20 KY CPC coke) and the structural extension of 48m of their existing jetty to accommodate additional offloading equipment. The silos have recently been contrasted and are in the commission stage. The jetty extension is underway and due for completion in late 2020.
ByrneLooby was appointed as the client's representative and resident engineer and is responsible for all civil and structural aspects of engineering, procurement and construction of the two silos and the jetty extension. The engineer is responsible for all design reviews, method statements, risk assessments, quality control review and final acceptance on behalf of the client.
