Al Marsa Floating City

Al Marsa Floating City

Al Marsa Floating City, located along the south-eastern corner of Amwaj Islands, is the waterfront housing project consisting of villas, chalets, and apartments - each with waterside mooring facilities. The concept is similar to Venice in which small recreational motorboats, kayaks or paddleboards can sail or paddle on the canal, between the residential units. The marine structures forming the Floating City include vertical sheet pile walls with a concrete capping, marine bridges connecting islands within the city, a lock-gate along the southern end of the city to allow vessels to sail to outer seas and a sluice valve located along the eastern edge to allow fresh seawater to flow through the canals. The Floating City has been managed and maintained by the Developer’s representative (currently Al Saraya Properties Co. W.L.L) for the past 14 years and is due to hand over the facility to the Ownership Committee shortly.

3) Lock Gate Chamber
4) Sluice Gate
5) Propriety Items
6) Roads and pavements

Challenges

Our team of qualified diving specialists at Ayesa in Bahrain undertook the diving inspection in-house. The survey took place in mid-summer, a difficult task with water temperatures as high as 36 degrees and outside temperatures of 41 degrees. Under such extreme conditions, the dive inspection required careful planning to ensure the efficient completion of the assessment in a safe and controlled manner.
