Our Role
ByrneLooby in Galway were involved in the A32 Cherrymount Link Road by the client, BAM International- MAG JV, from tender through detailed design and construction. We value engineered solutions such as a soil nail steepened slope alternative to reinforced concrete retaining structures and we designed bank seat abutments at two bridges supported on reinforced earth, saving our client both time and costs. In areas of soft ground, phased ‘excavate and replace’ techniques were used to improve the road foundation. We supervised the construction of the soft ground replacement with engineered fill in a controlled, cellular approach, in order to mitigate potential instability of adjacent lands.
