Here at ByrneLooby we take pride in ensuring that there is gender equality throughout the company and are in full support of women’s rights and their representation within society. International Women’s Day gives us the opportunity to use the platforms that we have, to empower each other and celebrate women’s achievements.
The theme for this year’s IWD is #EachforEqual, which recognises all the actions we can take as individuals to challenge the stereotypes out there, fight prejudice and celebrate women’s achievements.
International Women’s Day has a different meaning to all Women, and we asked some the women ByrneLooby what it meant to them:
“International women's day is a day to remember and appreciate all the amazing women that have had to fight for our equal rights and to remind ourselves that the fight is not yet over. Every day women are still being underestimated and put down just because of our gender and it’s not ok. International women's day needs to be promoted and celebrated by everyone.” – Lauren Green (Recruitment Administrator)
“Well, it means a hell of a lot to me, to be a modern liberated freethinking woman. The fact that I am sat here in the finance department surrounded by a wholly female team (when finance was and still can be a very male-dominated sector) is refreshing. I can come to work every day and earn equally as much money as a man, I can pay my own mortgage for my own house and pay my own bills all by myself. We can raise our children; we can look after our family/home and we can still be as successful at work as men. What a man can do a woman can do better!” – Lauren Burgess (Accounts Assistant)
“Empowering women all over the world!” – Sarah Bonner (Administration Manager)
“When I hear International Women’s Day, I feel happy and warm. This is a day women’s contribution to society is remembered and celebrated. It’s been a big improvement compared to 100 years ago when women didn’t even have the right to vote. On the other hand, this day also reminds me that maybe in our daily life our contribution is not as appreciated as it should be. We should not forget history and do our bits to improve our lives further.” – Min Ren (Associate)
“Promoting Equality!” – Sharon Quinn (HR Manager)
“A celebration of the strength of women who have been through so much adversity.” - Ruth Grist (Administrator)
“To encourage and empower women to take up leadership positions in STEM professions.” – Kelly Scott (L&d Manager)
