ByrneLooby-Ayesa Celebrates Highly Commended Award for sustainability and outstanding contribution to the Blanchardstown Regional Drainage Scheme.

ByrneLooby, An Ayesa Company, celebrates a highly commended award for sustainability and outstanding contribution in the Blanchardstown Regional Drainage Scheme

  • The Blanchardstown Regional Drainage Scheme, designed by ByrneLooby-Ayesa, wins a Highly Commended award at the Irish Concrete Society’s 40th Annual Awards
  • The project invested approximately €88 million to expand and upgrade the capacity of the existing sewer network in Dublin, Ireland’s capital city
  • This project will reduce the frequency and volume of untreated wastewater overflows from the wastewater network to the River Tolka, protecting habitats and ecosystems in the River Tolka and Dublin Bay.

ByrneLooby, An Ayesa Company is proud to announce that the Blanchardstown Regional Drainage Scheme as Employer’s Representative, responsible for the detailed specimen design and contract administration, has won a highly commended award in the Infrastructure category at the Irish Concrete Society's 40th Annual Awards. The project was evaluated by an independent awards jury panel and recognized for its innovative design and execution, contributing to sustainability and resilience in Ireland’s capital city. Blanchardstown Regional Drainage Scheme received its award for outstanding performance and significant contributions to overcoming the strain on the wastewater and stormwater networks in Dublin’s growing commuter belt. This recognition highlights the commitment and collaboration of multiple stakeholders in delivering this transformative water project in Ireland's capital.

The project invested approximately €88 million by the Irish water utility - Uisce Eireann (Irish Water) to expand and upgrade the capacity of the existing sewer network with 3.2km of new wastewater network serving Blanchardstown, Mulhuddart, and Castleknock, as well as a number of towns in Meath, including Dunboyne, Clonee, Ashbourne, and Ratoath.

The works increased the capacity of the sewerage network catering to increased flows and facilitating the future development of the area. The project consisted of 3.2 km of micro tunneling (1.8 m and 1.5 m diameter) and 30,000 m3 of offline storage beneath Waterville Park. These 3.2 km large diameter pipelines were installed using trenchless tunneling to minimise the impact on the motorway, communities, and the environment. This project will reduce the frequency and volume of untreated wastewater overflows from the wastewater network to the River Tolka, protecting habitats and ecosystems in the River Tolka and Dublin Bay.

Graham Stevenson, Director of Water ByrneLooby-Ayesa, said, “We are delighted to receive this award demonstrating our partnership approach and commitment to delivering better outcomes for our clients. This project will transform this growing commuter belt region, and we are proud to play a part in this regeneration.”

The Irish Concrete Society awards recognize excellence in project delivery and showcase best practices from Irish projects. The winners were announced at a prestigious awards ceremony at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin on March 25th, attended by our Water team. ByrneLooby-Ayesa would like to express gratitude to our partners, collaborators, and diligent team members, Uisce Éireann Irish Water, Ward and Burke, Kilsaran, and Tracey Concrete Ltd.
