Maurice Ryan, Associate Director
“Since joining ByrneLooby, I have been afforded the opportunity to develop both professionally and technically, through study, CPD and project experience. Starting out as a graduate, I was provided with a senior member of staff, who acted as a mentor and helped me to grow into the position. That process has continued into my current role, where I am afforded time with directors and other senior members of staff to identify areas for personal and professional growth. A number of years ago, a structured goal planning process was implemented which formalised this process, and the benefits are clear in terms of my career path to date.”

David Beadman, Consultant
"In 2008, I was a 50-year old designer who enjoyed technical challenges. I was at the stage in my career where I had the confidence to resolve structural and geotechnical design issues and I knew that I had the ability and experience to add value to these projects, but I had been doing this for almost 30 years. ByrneLooby challenged me to expand my career, using my previous experience as a sound basis for creating a new profitable business in the UK; a chance to leverage my contacts within the industry, developed over my 30-year career. We now have a long list of clients, many of whom come back time and again to benefit from the service we offer."
Padraig O'Brien, Senior Project Engineer
"As a Senior Project Engineer within ByrneLooby, I contribute to many design and build projects. The projects I have worked on vary and encapsulate a wide range of geotechnical engineering. I am constantly facing new challenges and growing my expertise as a result. The culture at ByrneLooby is very much focused on ensuring we provide our clients with exactly what they need to the highest quality and technical standards. To make sure this is achievable, ByrneLooby are continually supporting their Engineers to develop both professionally and technically."
Sean Harrington, Associate Director
"ByrneLooby have enabled me to develop significantly in the time I have been with them and they strongly encourage all aspects of my development, which has greatly benefited me personally and professionally. Their progressive views on competency building, goal planning and performance management have helped me focus on my own career and development, supported by internal and external training and mentoring when needed. As a company, ByrneLooby has an enjoyable and professional culture within which individuals and teams can deliver rewarding projects."
Matt Stenson, Senior CAD Technician
I have been working with ByrneLooby for nearly 7 years and in that time my technical ability as a CAD technician has gone from strength to strength. I have been given the opportunity to work on some fantastically challenging projects. I work within an extremely talented water department with strong leaders who have guided me in developing my career path in a direction that suits both me and the company.
Kerk Hortillo , Graduate Engineer
“After joining ByrneLooby as a graduate engineer in early August 2018, I had an opportunity to work alongside knowledgeable and experienced engineers and technicians in our Dublin, Belfast and Galway offices. I predominantly worked on the structural design of liquid-retaining structures as part of Water & Wastewater Treatment Plant infrastructure in Ireland. The Charlestown WWTP Storm/Effluent Tank, was one of the first challenging projects I worked on. This project involved the utilization of the existing (11.7m width, 4.5m high) Aeration Tank to be refurbished and modified into a two cells Storm/Effluent Tank, which required a finite element modelling analysis using Tekla Structural Designer. This software exposed me to valuable experience and a better understanding of modelling in a 3D environment. I found this advanced software intuitive to use and very beneficial for the projects. I really enjoyed working on this type of project with a great team. Everyone is incredibly dedicated and driven. I’ve been given lots of responsibility within this project, but it’s never overwhelming. As it’s an amazing learning experience and I have learned a lot of valuable tools that will help me progress further in the future.”
Steven Gregan, Country Manager
“I joined the ByrneLooby Bahrain team a little over 2 years ago. I now manage the daily operations in the Bahrain office, leading large scale marine and coastal projects across the GCC. The Bahrain office had a very successful 2018 and has grown from strength to strength. The team has expanded over recent years and I am privileged to be able to lead and mentor a group of smart and talented engineers. The role has been both exciting and fulfilling. I have been able to witness the team technically progress, each team member developing the individual strengths required to overcome daily challenges. All these opportunities have helped me gain a great deal of managerial, technical and commercial knowledge and experience which has contributed towards recently becoming chartered with the ICE. I look forward to many more successful years to come.”
Sam Hurst, Quality Manager
"With a background working with industry leading construction contractors in the UK and Ireland on complex major transport and infrastructure projects, starting with ByrneLooby presented quite a different challenge. A site based project environment consisted of all construction activities in the one place, whereas ByrneLooby operations in Europe and the Middle East means managing systems and processes for our dispersed workforce in multiple offices over many time zones. I have taken on-board the pre-existing ByrneLooby management systems, and I have been given the opportunity to adapt and develop our procedures and processes to enable our successful transition to the 2015 versions of the ISO Quality and Environmental Management System standards, with successful external audits in different offices. Further challenges include adding new offices to our certifications, fully implementing our cloud-based document management system, and coordinating continued professional development for our staff."
