Biography
With 35 years’ experience, Richard leads structural engineering teams in the Guildford and London offices. A Chartered Engineer and European Engineer, Richard is also a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE), a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (MIStructE) and a Member of the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (MCIHT).
Richard’s expertise in structural engineering has a particular focus on high rise buildings, with particular focus on efficient construction techniques. This has been fundamental to his work on the design of a temporary transfer structure for the 67-storey tower at 22 Bishopsgate. Another career highlight for Richard was his work on the design of 22 Fenchurch Street, a 37-storey building in the City of London.
With writings on design, construction, refurbishment and temporary works, Richard has contributed to New Civil Engineer, The Structural Engineer, Southeast Asia Construction, Building Engineer, Concrete Magazine, and events such as Ecobuild, BCO Conference, CTBUH Conference, and Ground Engineering Conference.
Currently a Member of the London Borough of Brent Design Review Panel, Richard is also formerly Secretary to the Best Practice Committee of the British Urban Regeneration Association, CIC Representative on the Department of the Environment Quality Liaison Group, and a Panel Member of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Award for Urban Renaissance.
