Staff from the ByrneLooby Manchester office recently undertook a site visit to inspect repair works to a failed section of railway in Armathwaite, Cumbria.

The permanent repair measures were designed by ByrneLooby and comprise infilling of the underpass with foam concrete and a major slope regrade. Due to problems acquiring the land occupied by the underpass, significant temporary works (propped double king post wall with a maximum height of 6.5m) have also been required to allow the regrade to take place.

The photographs show the king post wall structure being constructed. Once the land purchase has been finalised this structure will be buried by the regrade
