Presentation on Microtunneling in Doha

Apr 22, 2015

Mr Sam Murdock, Group Director at Byrne Looby gave an ICE presentation on Microtunneling in Doha on Tuesday 14th April. The presentation provided an understanding into the challenges and constraints associated with the complex design on the Lusail Expressway project. With over 80 in attendance an insightful evening was had by all.

Background:

Hyundai were appointed by the Public Works Authority to design and construct the Lusail Expressway from Onasia Street to Lusail, crossing both the North and South canals. In order for the expressway to be constructed EHV and HV electrical cables need to be diverted from below the existing road service. Following consultation with Kahramaa, it was agreed to design and construct bespoke service tunnels to carry these cables. As the tunnels needed to be fully accessible to Kahramaa personnel, “life systems” needed to be included in the design scope. ASCO were appointed by Hyundai to undertake this design and Byrne Looby, as their JV Partner played a lead role in the successful delivery of this project.
