The Saudi International Water, Electricity & Power Generation Conference & Exhibition or WE-Power Expo was held in Dammam, Saudi Arabia from 13th-15th May. The Expo is an industry event where seminars and workshops are organised to discuss challenges in the water, electricity and power sectors, with specialists and decision makers from regional and international institutions gathered at one place. This year saw the 10th anniversary of the event which was led by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Saud, Deputy Minister of Water Affairs for the Ministry of Water and Electricity, Saudi Arabia.

The conference included 5 sessions where speakers from government agencies including the National Power Company, National Water Company and the Saudi Electricity Company discussed the challenges facing Saudi Arabia in the provision of national services.

Sam Murdock, Byrne Looby’s Director of Water Services presented on Best Practices of Water Management in Industrial Cities in Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom has 30 industrial cities which are home to over 3,000 factories. The cities are developed near areas with natural resources and are generally very remote which creates significant challenges in the provision of clean water and the treatment of wastewater. Mr. Murdock spoke about the ways in which efficient water and wastewater solutions could be developed for these large scale industrial developments. The presentation can be viewed here or below.
