Geoscience Ireland meets Central ECCAS Ambassador

Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) Ambassador A Guy Sokambi Zounguere visited Geoscience Ireland (GI) to explore opportunities for GI members in ECCAS member countries on the 29th of January. Sean Finlay, Director for Business Development outlined GI activities and capabilities. He also outlined to Mr Guy that GI is focussed on opportunities in Africa .He highlighted activities centred on Africa such as GI Africa Forum and GI previous and present participation at the Mining Indaba in South Africa.

Ambassador Zounguere was impressed with the GI presentation. He extended an invitation to GI members to visit ECCAS in the future. Mr Guy highlighted Water Management, Waste Management, Social impact of mining and exploration as critical areas to ECCAS membership. Ambassador Guy also chronicled the historical bond between African states and Ireland. He noted that Ireland has provided support to African states through Irish Aid. Ambassador Zounguere mentioned that ECCAS members wants Trade alongside Aid as part of development assistance.

ECCAS is regional body which represents 10 Africa States; Angola ,Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and Sao Tome e Principe. Ambassador Zounguere was in Dublin on a visit this month. The objective of his visit was to prepare for an incoming trade mission to Ireland by ECCAS and European Ambassadors on the 28-30May.Information on ECCAS can be found through their website, www ceeac eccas org.
