Whitechapel Crossrail Station

This project required accuracy of a variety of methods for success completion

ByrneLooby were part of the advance works for the Whitechapel Crossrail Station designing the foundations and upstand wall for a shed and independently checking the foundations to the concrete batcher plant at the site.

Whitechapel Station is set to become an important interchange in the new Crossrail line and the batcher plant to supply the concrete for the new station is built on RC piled foundations. We reviewed the ground settlement predictions for the foundations, advising our client on the most cost effective way to monitor pile movements, the accuracy of a variety of methods and the overall sensitivity of the piled design.

For the foundations and upstand wall, we used a ground bearing slab and pile foundations. Our design factored in an analysis to ensure no adverse impact from the impending shaft and tunnelling works at the site.

Scope of Project

  • Part of the advance works for the Whitechapel Crossrail Station
  • Design checking of foundations to the concrete batcher at the site and detailed design of foundations and an upstand wall for a shed at the Whitechapel site.
  • Provided comprehensive advisory services to our client on pile monitoring techniques.
  • Ensured designs were robust to withstand future shaft and tunnelling works.
