Staffordshire W2R Facility

Additional grouting and anchor works were needed for the project's success

ByrneLooby provided the specialist pile foundation design for this new £150m Energy from Waste Facility in Staffordshire.

Designed to handle more than 300,000 tonnes of waste per annum, the EfW facility will export in excess of 23MW to the National Grid – sufficient to power 32,000 homes.

We designed the secant piled wall for the excavation of the building along with grouting and anchor works associated with the construction of the base slab. The design also incorporated a number of bearing piles around the perimeter of the excavation to ensure robustness.

Scope of project

  • Staffordshire W2R is a new £150m waste to energy facility in Cannock.
  • The facility will take over 300,000 tonnes of residual waste annually; from which it will export in excess of 23MW to the national grid.
  • Specialist pile design consisting of a secant piled wall, bearing piles as well as the grouting and anchoring works for the base slab.
