River Fergus (Ennis) Certified Drainage Scheme

PREPARATION OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT (EIS) WAS REQUIRED FOR THE SUCCESS OF THIS PROJECT

The River Fergus (Ennis) Certified Drainage Scheme is designed to alleviate flooding in the town of Ennis, Co. Clare and entails the following: 
  • Replacement of sections of the existing river wall (690 lin metres) in the town centre and construction of new RC wall and embankment (540 lin metres) 
  • Construction of Surface Water Interceptor Sewers and 4 No. Pumping Stations 
  • Construction of Flood Protection Earth Embankment 
  • General Channel Improvement Works 
  • Refurbishment of Mill Bridge Sluice Gates 
  • Improvement in the efficiency of operation of the Gaurus Floodplain 

Scope of Project

Archaeological Study, liaison with Conservation Section of Clare County Council and mitigation measures as the works will be constructed in the medieval town of Ennis.

Flora and Fauna Study and mitigation measures which included; 
  • Bat Survey of River Wall 
  • Rare Plant Survey 
  • Lamprey relocation measures
