ByrneLooby quantified, scoped and designed the ground improvement and remediation measures required to complete the construction of this new build shopping centre in North Wales.

The 160,000 sq. ft shopping complex presented highly challenging ground conditions necessitating ground improvement measures for its car parks and heavy duty access roads. Our remedial solutions had to consider the presence of an adjacent rail line as well as the newly built commercial buildings surrounding the complex.

We provided a cost effective ground improvement solution which used deep soil mixed columns and an in situ mass ‘slab’ capping layer in order to stabilise the poor ground and ensure a robust car park and access roads for the new shopping centre. 

Scope of Project

  • Design of ground improvement/remediation measures for the access roads and car park of this new build shopping complex.
  • The design had to be sensitive to an adjacent mainline Network Rail track and the recently completed buildings on site.
  • Provided a cost-effective ground improvement solution which utilised deep soil mixing and a mass-stabilised load transfer platform.
