Páirc Uí Chaoimh

EXTENSIVE PILE TESTING SOLUTIONS RESULTED IN SIGNIFICANT SAVINGS

With an original capacity of just over 30,000, the redevelopment of Cork’s Páirc Uí Chaoimh stadium is a highly anticipated project, valued at €70m. When complete in 2017, the new stadium will see a rise in capacity to 45,000 and a stadium complex.

The role of ByrneLooby was to complete the detailed design of the foundation piles, over 1000 piles in total, for the redevelopment.

The site is situated in an area of reclaimed mud flats, with extensive deposits of soft silts and loose to medium dense gravels. ByrneLooby developed designs for a range of piling solutions including toe grouting, displacement piling and conventional piling. An extensive pile testing regime was undertaken by the piling contractor and analysed by ByrneLooby in order to determine the optimum foundation solution. This approach resulted in significant cost and program savings for the project.
