Omagh Footbridge

technical approval had to be secured for this project's success

ByrneLooby designed the east and west bank approach ramps for this new footbridge over the River Strule in Omagh, Northern Ireland.

This pedestrian bridge is part of the transformative Riverside Walk project and crosses the river at the former army barracks in Lisanelly.

In our role as geotechnical consultants on the project, we worked to secure technical approval from the roads service for the bridge approach ramps and undertook a Category III design check for the bridge works for our client to Eurocode standards.

In the period following construction, we were responsible for validating the construction compliance of the bridge approaches.

Scope of Project

  • Geotechnical consultant for the construction of a new pedestrian bridge.
  • Role included the design, geotechnical certification and validation of the bridge ramps.
  • The Riverside Walk project is a publically funded project involving the construction of a new footbridge as well as walking and cycling paths.
