N5 Ballaghdeeren Bypass, Ireland

Improving traffic was essential for the success of this project

ByrneLooby are the independent earthworks checker for the national strategic N5 bypass corridor in the west of Ireland.

The bypass will significantly improve traffic within the town of Ballaghaderreen, cutting journey times to the midlands and onward to Dublin in the process. The existing N5 runs through the town of Ballaghaderreen and the 13.6km bypass project includes re-routing the road avoiding the town realignment/bridging of local road junctions and a major grade separated junction at the N5/R293 interface.

Our role was to ensure efficient and robust designs for our Client in compliance with the Employer’s requirements. To this end, we provided Independent CAT III checks of all earthworks, geotechnical interpretations and soft ground improvement measures along the route. The earthworks included deep cuttings through rock, embankments over soft ground and approach embankments to 5 road bridges and 1 river bridge.
