Abu Dhabi

Hodariyat Bridge

AN ECONOMIC AND BUILDABLE DESIGN WAS DEVELOPED FOR A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT

ByrneLooby designed and supervised the construction of the foundations for the first stay cable bridge in the UAE.

The Hodariyat Bridge links Abu Dhabi to Hodariyat Island which were previously separated by a 1000m wide water channel and will facilitate the future development of the island.

Working closely with our client and their designer IBT, our designs for the bridge foundations consisted of both onshore and offshore piles; the latter of which were constructed using barges at each of the pier locations. We developed an economic and buildable design which was especially important given the challenging scope of the project. The marine piles were 1.5m diameter whereas we employed smaller 1.2m diameter piles for the shore sections which are permanently cased through the overburden materials into the top of the rock.

Scope of Project

  • Foundation design for the first stay cable bridge in the UAE.
  • Role included both foundation design and construction supervision.
  • Foundation design included piles for both offshore and onshore bridge sections.
  • The bridge will link Abu Dhabi with Hodariyat Island which has been earmarked for future residential development.
