Highcross Shopping Centre

ByrneLooby has been appointed by PJ Carey under a design and build contract for the detailed design of the refurbishment of the west wing of Highcross Shopping Centre in Leicester. The old House of Fraser store is to be reconfigured to provide additional retail space at lower ground floor and parking at level 2. Additional space will also be provided by the addition of mezzanine space, infilling of the escalator void and reconfiguring cores. The works are due for completion in the summer of 2018.

The scheme strengthens the link between Highcross’ St Paul’s Square and Leicester’s busy High Street, with users drawn between the two by the architecture and activity created by the additional offers. The façade treatment of the new externally facing units take references from the centre’s existing architecture and materials, with a focus on maximising shopfront opportunities and visibility into the new units.
