Halwani Food Factory

overcoming poor ground conditions was essential for this project's success

ByrneLooby developed the ground improvement solutions required to reduce costs and accelerate the programme to construct this new food processing facility in Jeddah.

The proposed site of the new facility was deemed to have a high risk of settlement of foundations. There was poor ground near the service which would have required excavation and replacement as well as a significant quantity of fill to be placed across the site.

With consideration of time and programme, we successfully trialled and implemented a tailored procedure which used a polygonal role to improve the insitu ground and compact the fill avoiding the need for excavation and increasing the speed as well as reducing costs for our client.

We also prepared the specification for the earthworks and supervised their construction.

Scope of Project

  • Design of ground improvement measures and earthworks specifications for this new food processing facility in Jeddah.
  • The ground was considered to have low bearing capacity meaning that there was a high risk of settlement.
  • Successful trial and full scale implementation of an innovative procedure which used a polygonal role to improve in situ material.
  • Provided solutions which accelerated programme and significantly reduced costs by eliminating the need for excavate and replace methods.
