Glenconway Wind Farm - Phase 2

OVERCOMING DIFFICULT GROUND CONDITIONS WAS ESSENTIAL FOR THIS PROJECTS SUCCESS

We were involved from the beginning in the 12 wind turbine extension to Glenconway Wind Farm. 

The 537 hectare wind farm site required a flexible approach to allow for the presence of peat in depths of up to 4m across the site and to balance the employer’s requirements to commercially harvest the peat upon completion of the works.

Our involvement began when we designed and supervised the ground investigation and we were subsequently novated by the client to Gaelforce Renewables as Civil and Geotechnical Consultants as the scheme entered the construction phase. 

We were responsible for the full civils design package for 5.5km of internal access tracks; 60% of which run through deep peat cuttings. We also undertook the geotechnical and structural design of piled and gravity wind turbine bases as well as the crane hardstand areas.   

Scope of Project

  • Glenconway Wind Farm Phase II is a 12 Wind Turbine extension to the existing Glenconway Wind Farm in Co. Derry.
  • We were novated by the client SSE Renewables to the contractor as Civil and Geotechnical consultant.
  • The Civils design balances the challenging ground conditions and the client’s wishes to commercially harvest peat on the site.
