Finsbury Circus Crossrail, London

the foundation design needed to allow for settlements for this project's success

ByrneLooby designed the foundations for a concrete batcher at Finsbury Circus to be used in the construction of Crossrail’s Liverpool Street station.

As part of the Crossrail works, a section of Finsbury Circus was acquired to construct a temporary access shaft allowing access for the construction of the new platform tunnels.

These works required a concrete batcher and our design for the foundations to the unit had to factor in the location’s close proximity to a London Underground exclusion zone.

We analysed the foundations and assessed the effect of settlements due to the excavation of the shaft and tunnel providing a robust solution which was sensitive to LU requirements.

Scope of project

  • Design of the foundations for a concrete batcher at Finsbury Circus
  • The site was in close proximity to a LU exclusion zone and the foundation design needed to allow for settlements due to the excavation of an adjacent shaft and tunnel.
