Marine Services

Dubai Maritime City

ByrneLooby was appointed as the main designer and PMC of a New Jetty and associated services in Dubai Maritime City.

The project is being developed by Dubai Ship Building Enterprises, part of the Mubarak Marine Group and includes a quay wall which is located on a reclaimed peninsula within Dubai Maritime City, adjacent to Port Zayed Dubai’s original port. The quay wall is initially design to be approximately 200m in length, although there are plans in future phases to extend the facility by an additional 1km.

The scope of works for ByrneLooby included:

  • Developing optimised solutions utilising existing casted mass concrete blocks into the proposed design
  • Anticipated berthing requirements for the jetty including vessel tonnage, draft and loads
  • Required depth of approach channel, turning circle, and quayside
  • Quay facility furniture requirements
  • Services requirements – e.g. water, power, fuel etc.
  • Scoping and management of third party services such as bathymetric surveys
  • Scoping and management of third party geotechnical information to determine ground conditions
  • Numerical modelling for wave climate and water levels

Key points:

  • Utilisation of existing material
  • Hydraulic modelling
  • Initial concept design options
