Docklands Light Railway Bearings Survey

close co-ordination and communication with our client was essential for the success of this project

While Crossrail’s TBM tunnelled below ground, we undertook daily inspections of two viaducts at the intersection of the live DLR and future Crossrail lines.

Our client Dragados-Sisk JV’s Crossrail tunnel runs under the East India Brunswick Viaduct and West India Quay Viaduct which carries the DLR. From the time when the TBM was 30m away until when it was safely past the viaducts, we carried out daily non-intrusive visual and measurement surveys of the bearings of both viaducts.

We communicated closely with our client highlighting any changes in the viaduct bearings to ensure the groundbreaking tunnelling works had no negative impact on the DLR.

Scope of Project

  • Daily non-intrusive surveys and reporting on the condition of the bearings of two masonry viaducts;
  • Inspections undertaken at the junction of the live DLR and future Crossrail lines.
  • Required close co-ordination and communication with our client.
